If the soil quality of the existing building foundation is good and the bearing capacity is high, the base area of the foundation can be increased. After increasing the base area, it is recommended to increase it by 10% compared to the calculated value.

When verifying the original foundation strength during the renovation and addition of layers, the strength should be reduced according to the actual situation.

When the foundation soil of the house is weak and the bearing capacity is low, a pile foundation can be used to bear the additional layer load. After the strength of the pile body reaches the design requirements, a newly enlarged foundation cap should be constructed on it. The pile should be connected to the foundation according to the regulations, and the foundation settlement should be calculated according to the specific situation.

When the existing building is a reinforced concrete strip foundation, anchor rod static pressure piles can be used for reinforcement according to the requirements of additional layer loads. When the width or thickness of the original reinforced concrete strip foundation cannot meet the requirements of pile pressing, the foundation should be widened or thickened before pile pressing construction. Tree root piles, rotary jet grouting piles and other methods can also be used for reinforcement.

When the original foundation has good stiffness and integrity or has reinforced concrete ground beams, lifting beams or cantilever beams can be used to bear the load of the newly added layer structure without reinforcing the original foundation. The cross-sectional dimensions and reinforcement of the beam should be determined through calculation. The beam can be placed under the original foundation or ground beam. When using prefabricated lifting beams, the beam, pile, and foundation should be tightly connected, and the local compressive bearing capacity between the lifting beam or cantilever beam and the foundation or ground beam should be calculated.

When the upper structure and foundation stiffness are good, the bearing layer is buried shallowly, the groundwater level is low, and the construction excavation will not cause additional subsidence and cracking to the original structure, pier foundation or pit type static pressure pile reinforcement can be used.

7. Foundation reinforcement: When using the foundation grouting reinforcement method for existing building foundations, expansion agents, accelerators, etc. should be added to collapsible loess foundations, filled soil foundations, or other foundations that are prone to additional deformation due to grouting reinforcement to prevent adverse effects on the building.

8. Zhongyan Zhongjian Construction Reinforcement Company believes that when an existing building is built on a pile foundation, the quality and condition of the original pile body should be checked, and the physical and mechanical properties of the soil should be measured to determine the compaction condition of the soil between the piles. According to the working conditions of the pile and soil, the bearing capacity of the original pile foundation should be improved. For the situation where the pier and soil are separated, the joint work of piles and soil shall not be considered. When the number of piles is insufficient, additional piles should be added appropriately. For rotten wooden piles or damaged concrete piles, reinforcement and repair should be carried out before adding layers for construction.

9. Reinforcement: When the original geological survey data of an existing building is too simple or lacks geological survey data, and there are civil defense projects or complex site conditions under the building, geotechnical engineering surveys should be conducted to investigate the site conditions.

10. When using a buttressed column structure to directly add layers, the column should be placed on the newly established foundation, and the new and old foundations should be connected as a whole. If the new foundation is a soil foundation, crushed stones should be compacted or other methods of reinforcement should be used before foundation construction can proceed.
